John 4: 14 but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”Springing up into new life

“What have I gotten myself into?”
Did you ever think these might have been the first conscious thoughts of the Lord Jesus as his mother, exhausted from her labors laid him carefully into the manger (hay mow)? Things were at best difficult for the young mother. But life, the life of God was there in that stable and she had long since found a peace with her circumstances. Through all the rejection, through all the questioning and spurning of even her own family she had peace with God when she surrendered to his powerful Spirit.
In this much romanticized verse we see the seeds of the disillusionment in many young Christians. The hope for comfort, peace, and freedom from strife in the moment tends to cloud the view of the eternal, and that word, eternal, is important. Hard times were coming for the woman and her son, The peace she had as she watched him sleep in that rude place was the peace of eternity.
