Luke 11:7
And suppose the one inside answers, ‘Don’t bother me. The door is already locked, and my children and I are in bed. I can’t get up and give you anything.’

We have often taken this passage as a challenge to be more open and generous with those around us. Thinking of Jesus’ larger mission which saw everyone as though they were likely to believe, and yes, I know some of you think that he simply bypassed those He knew were hell bound; I do wonder, however, if the “sleeping family” Jesus was referring to here might not be the very Church He was going to build? We have gotten fat dumb and lazy over the years and unwilling on a moment-to-moment basis to “deal with” most who come to our door. What if some character’s face was looming out of the darkness who looked like the man in this picture? This is a picture that came up when I searched for a picture or image of “an ethnically accurate Jesus”.

Regardless of our fright or shock we have the obligation to be social and spiritual risk takers. Will you be the one to open your door? (See Revelation3:20)
