Isaiah 7:For to us a child is born,
    to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon
[d] his shoulder,    and his name shall be called[e]
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
    Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
    there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
    to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
    from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

            Have you ever been caught “flat-footed”? That is almost missing an important moment because it didn’t happen in the way you expected it to. For a people steeped in prophecy with all of the indicators in place, at least that’s how we see the situation surrounding the birth of Jesus. Every indicator was there, every hint, every specific event, but most folks missed it completely.

            How smart and wise we are. Right? After a couple of thousand years we’ve got it all sorted. Right? But I wonder, what might we be missing. In our living Christ, in our expecting His return, in our perception of the urgency of sharing His good news. Are we like the folks in a lifeboat who have lost their hope and expectation of rescue? Refresh yourself and be revived this Christmas season. Return in your heart to the stable in Bethlehem. See the baby who rules the world.
