Finding God in the Mystery of every day

1 Peter 1:1010 Therefore, my brothers and sisters, make every effort to confirm your calling and election. For if you do these things, you will never stumble, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior.

This verse, perhaps more than any other, has caused great consternation for those who are young in Christ, no matter what their age. The concept here stated has set theological battle lines, exposed the kind of one-upmanship that has discouraged more folk than you could possibly imagine. Through the ages we have seen how the devil has used this thought to lull many believers into a lesser discipleship and has also allowed many younger folk to go off on wild flights of fancy to the detriment of the testimony of Jesus Christ in the world.

Simply put it is very easy to presume and far more difficult to understand. When we read the whole of the chapter up to this point, we shall see that there is a very logical thought process here and that as the Holy Spirit has informed Peter, and he has expressed faithfully our “calling, and election” are concepts which mut be cultivated deeply in the love and imitation of Jesus Christ.

More to come…
