Ephesians 2:19 Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household (NIV)

I have always been troubled by the issue of dual citizenship and the necessary obligations that accompany that concept. On the one hand I am under pressure to act and to cast my ballot in such a way as to demonstrate my “submission to the authorities” (Romans 13:1-7) for the overall good of the region and nation in which I live. On the other hand there are times such as we live in today that to vote for either side of a particular argument we are flying in the face of our citizen ship in the Kingdom of God.

Worse yet, there is the problem of information overload and the lack of true and accurate information from our political candidates as to who they are and what they represent. So much blather and meaningless rhetoric does nothing to inspire confidence. Add to that the time spent trying to discern what is the best course to take it is no wonder that people tend to skip elections altogether.

So, what to do? Take the time to know as much as possible about the people standing for election. Measure them against the Truth of God’s Word. After that, we can only “take our best shot” and hope for the best. Remember God is still on His throne, and he watches over all.
