The one who has knowledge uses words with restraint, and whoever has understanding is even-tempered.
Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

We live in a time when all pretenses of civility have been thrown out the window. Mean, aggressive nasty people seem ever ready to blare out their opinions on everything from the state of government to their perceived failures of God in society. We do not want to take the time to listen to one another, we are afraid of any real sort of substantive debate, rather, we are content to shout into the nearest microphone or camera about what we want and to hell with everybody else.
From the very beginning Scripture has taught that restraint and self-control (See Galatians 5:22) are a singular characteristic of those who walk with God. We cannot afford to treat the whole world like a hockey game, ready to throw down our gloves and fight at the least provocation. Think for a moment of what would happen if Jesus acted on every stupid, cruel, ignorant thing ever said to Him during His time before the cross.
