There is little doubt that in today’s so-called “news cycle” (Perhaps more appropriately “outrage cycle”) there is on any given day enough provocation to frustrate and anger just about anyone and everyone. Yellow journalism, so scrupulously avoided during wartime had been set loose in every newsroom in America and elsewhere in the years since the supposed “wars to end all wars.” (Speaking here of WW 1 and WWII, but pick a war, any war.)
It would seem, to listen to any newscast, no matter your so-called political leanings, there is more than enough going on in the lives of relatively insignificant people to get someone upset. “If it bleeds it leads.” Has been the mantra of news organizations hell-bent on focusing on the weakness and failures of the people all around us. Now, I ask you; Who is interested in provoking and promoting the failure and degradation of your neighbors?
