Deuteronomy 30: 15 “See, I have placed before you today life and happiness, and death and adversity, 16 in that I am commanding you today to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, so that you may live and become numerous, and that the Lord your God may bless you in the land where you are entering to take possession of it. 17 But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but allow yourself to be led astray and you worship other gods and serve them,18 I declare to you today that you will certainly perish. You will not prolong your days in the land where you are crossing the Jordan to enter and take possession of it. 19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have placed before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants, 20 by loving the Lord your God, by obeying His voice, and by holding close to Him; for this is your life and the length of your days, so that you may live in the land which the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, to give them.” (NASB)

A lifetime ago a film was made entitled Ground hog day.  (Columbia pictures 1993) The premise of the movie was built around the idea of one man experiencing the same day over and over again until he made the “right” choices and all lived happily ever after.

There is a sort of ground hog day experience in scripture where people are continually given the chance to choose whether to follow their own whims or to observe every truth God has revealed to them. On one side there is the aspect of feeling good, fitting in, ease of passage through the times. On the other side is living as righteous for righteousness’ sake. The people of Israel continually failed with the startling and controversial exceptions of a few individuals. (Vis Joshua 24:15, etc.)

Today it seems that we are at that point. To be honest with you, in my own humble opinion, every institution I have believed in over the course of my life has been perverted, misused, or has utterly failed to live up to the standards they had set for themselves in the beginning. Government, church denominations, foundations and charities all have failed in some way or another.

The only answer for any of us is Jesus the Savior, Jesus the crucified, Jesus the Risen Lord. Follow Him and let all the others fall by the wayside. Obey Him and reach out in love to the lost, confused, evil, and frankly stupid people around you. Teach and admonish (that means to warn) of the coming apocalypse (that means the end when Jesus returns to put all things right) everyone who will listen. Do not be overly grieved by those who won’t hear you. Keep walking just as Jesus did.

Coming soon. The Whitney Chronicles a prequel. Found in the Rubble
