Ezekiel 22:27Her officials within her are like wolves tearing their prey; they shed blood and kill people to make unjust gain. (NIV)

What everyone seems to be missing in the debate surrounding the spate of recent “random” acts of violence is the fact that the weapons are not necessarily the problem, it is the character of the entire culture. When we can only be “outraged” by the most extremely offensive behavior, and that only within the seventy two hour news cycle, there is a problem, a big problem with the prevailing zeitgeist which must be changed.

This is not just some “old guy” singin’ “rah, rah, rumble seats and runnin boards, them were the good ol’ days”. There is a need for fundamental change. In order to develop a respect for the law and the basics of appropriate human social interaction there must be a center upon which a majority agree and must be held at all costs. With all due apologies to the other so called “world religions” the moral imperatives of Christianity have within their makeup the ability to say NO to the kind of nonsense that now seems to be the norm rather than the exception within our culture, and yet do so with kindness and love.

Proverbs 29:18

Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint; but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction.
