Psalm 37:3Trust in the Lord and do good; Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness. (NASB)

The very idea of cultivating faithfulness is difficult for some folks to understand. For many, you either take God at His word, or you do not. But for most, to take the journey of faith, for journey it is, is like embarking on an adventure without any certainty of the path or the difficulties that will be encountered. While the goal is clear to most, the journey itself is very specifically an individual one. As a pastor I have often heard the words “bloom where you’re planted” used to describe having some sort of staying power in the face of failure or resistance. Still others have advocated just “moving on” when difficulties or better opportunities arose. None of that has anything to do with cultivating faithfulness.
Faithfulness comes as a result of growing relationship. We relate to God the Father and Jesus the son through prayer and acting out what we understand from scripture and experience pleases God. If we commit to this sort of “cultivation” we may be surprised by the miraculous presence, even intervention of the Heavenly Spirit of God.
