1 John 4: 4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 5 They are from the world and therefore speak from the viewpoint of the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God, and whoever knows God listens to us; but whoever is not from God does not listen to us. This is how we recognize the Spirit of truth and the spirit of falsehood.

As a sundial shows the time by the position of a shadow, so the apostle John also saw that the world was partly in sunlight, partly in shadow. The distinctions are very clear now as they were to this amazing gospel writer. You are either in, or you’re out. I cannot put or let you in. That is between you and Jesus. The story has been told, do you believe? Will you accept? Will you act on your belief? Jesus did not ask much of his disciples, only everything. Love God, love one another, talk to God though Him, be witnesses to his grace, help people to become disciples.
You may be saying I could never live up to any of that. But think for a moment. If you believe, you were “knit together in your mother’s womb” (Psalm 139:13) for a purpose. You, by the grace of God, carry within you the seed of a destiny that only you were made for.
