Galatians 3:26-28 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus. (KJV)

For many years men in the protestant and Catholic churches have taken a couple of phrases from Paul out of context and have attempted to relegate the women in their lives to some sort of second-class citizens and worse yet to, in many instances ‘fly in the face’ of God’s calling on a woman’s life. Similarly the “eye for eye” vengeance seekers have mis read, misunderstood, and abused the Truth of God’s word by selectively choosing the aspects that made them comfortable while ignoring their own sin and lack of commitment. This “hard of hearing” approach has been wholly unsuccessful and although it has weakened the Church in the eyes of the world yet, little by little the whole truth is finally beginning to emerge in the light of the “whole Bible” teaching of many churches.
There is a cautionary tale here. It becomes very easy to slip into some sadly “self-justifying” aspects of scripture and to focus on those exclusively. This is called eisegesis. The nature of commitment and sacrifice are best observed in the life of Jesus Christ as the pinnacle of behavior, relationships, and attitude.
