Luke 1:26-28In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!”

When God calls the indicators show that most frequently it is a double edged sword. On the one hand, like Mary it is a certain sign of the favor of the Lord. On the other hand there are always consequences and a cost to be paid to follow Him completely. Dietrich Bonhoeffer wrote eloquently in his classic book The Cost of Discipleship. Grace is not free. It is costly, the most costly “commodity”, if you will, on this planet.
Of the many things Christmas should remind us about t is this very thing. The nature of God’s calling. Paul wrote very clearly about the will of God. 1 Thessalonians 4:3 It is God’s will that you should be sanctified:
To be sanctified simply means that your whole life, your affections, your will, your hope, and your future are laid before the Lord in surrender, set apart to His plan and purpose for you.
