Nehemiah 8:8 They read from the book, from the Law of God, translating to give the sense so that they understood the reading.

If you’ve ever struggled to understand the scriptures as they are being read to you, or if in doing your own reading you have given up because the language and syntax make no sense to you then you are not alone. When the Israelites returned from captivity they had been as much as three generations separated from the temple and the general reading of the law of God. It is no shameful thing to need an interpreter, whether it be a learned person or the right translation of which there are many. Be careful though for any interpretation which has as its foundational perspective something which long history has deemed to be outside of the will of God.

That being said, there are several which I gladly recommend. NIV, NKJV, NASB, NEB. These four translations afford the modern reader with an accurate interpretation of the original languages. All have been derived from original manuscripts in Greek, Hebrew, and Latin. Happy reading.
