Deuteronomy 8:18

But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.

I’ve often wondered what inspires this sort of insanity. I begin seeing supposed “Black Friday” offerings in me e-mail streams as early as August. Are we doing this sort of thing to please or bless loved ones? Does everything really come down to what and how much we can acquire? The ability to buy, the drive to “get” things seems to me to be contrary to God’s plan and desire for our lives. Adam and Eve were blessed beyond imagining, and yet they were tempted by the allure of more. Paul, on the other hand was able to say: But godliness with contentment is great gain.  You may have found yourself caught up in a scene like this today. You have my sympathies. Perhaps it’s time to refocus on the one who has provided the means, not the “stuff”.
