Joshua 24:15 (New International Version)

But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Have you ever heard the expression, “fish or cut bait’? Very simply it means “make up your mind”. In context, Joshua is essentially telling the Israelites that they have come to a point of decision. Similarly when Elijah stood on the side of the mountain he enjoined the people gathered there watching yet another demonstration of the power of God (1 Kings 18:20-21) to stop “wavering” between two ideas, value systems, Gods, lifestyles…

Surely the same choice is before us every day.  Will we stand with the crowd shouting “crucify, crucify”, or will we step up to what we know to be true, and in faith follow after our resurrected and living Lord?
