Matthew 4: 8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. 9 “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.”

Jesus, always aware of who he was, was not deceived by the Devil here. He knew implicitly that He would come again into the glory and splendor of the presence of His Father just as He had in obedience and humility set aside His glory, (His privilege if you will) to reach down to you and I.
While I have never owned a horse or a large ranch, I do own a lawn tractor and a couple of acres in the country. There are many times I’ve sat upon that lawn tractor on the hillside in behind my house and “surveyed” the vastness of my holdings with a certain pride of accomplishment. I could well understand at that point the temptation of power and substance that the Devil put before Jesus. Thankfully, I have come to look upon the transitory nature of “stuff” and look instead to the coming glory of being in the presence of God forevermore.
