Romans 5:3-4 And not only that, but we also glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance; and perseverance, character; and character, hope.

Many of you may have spent some time melting lead wheel weights or some other form of lead to make sinkers for fishing, or to make bullets for a black powder rifle or pistol. The process is quite simple really. The lead is subjected to heat hot enough to turn it from a solid to a liquid. At the end of that process a film forms across the top of the hoy liquid and may be skimmed away. This is called the dross. It is comprised of the combination of impurities and the crust caused by the natural oxidation of the lead itself.

Christian trials and tribulations here in this world are like the furnace. We are subjected to the heat of scorn, the rejection of loved ones, and the disparaging remarks of our neighbors. At the very worst we are imprisoned, and tortured even murdered because of our faith declared in Jesus our Christ. To persevere, to not relent, not recant, not step back from our love for Jesus will in the end yield in us a purity fit for our Lord in whom our hope shall be realized.
