2 Peter 2 But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.
Take an inventory. Who are the false teachers in your life. We all have them. They are like parasites clinging to our consciousness through advertising, through the arts, through every prurient interest that the human soul conjures up, through subtle and not so subtle denials of the truth and reality of our Christ. (Yes, I really did say prurient interests. Prurient interest ” means a lustful interest in sexual stimulation or gratification. Prurient interest means a shameful or morbid interest in nudity, sex, or excretion, which goes substantially beyond customary limits of candor in description or representation of such matters.)
Think of the so called celebrities who moronically hold forth on social issues without any foundation of credibility except to “command an audience because of their celebrity. The farcical notion that their opinion matters because of their fame is the height of arrogance. Do not be swayed by their twisted thinking.
