Palm 91: Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.[a]
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”
3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

An all too familiar sight today. The hospital ward where dedicated medical professionals do whatever they can to heal and protect their patients. I thank God for each and every one of them. The “promise” in this psalm of protection against the “deadly pestilence” may be less about protection from disease than it is about protection from the constant din of doubters of God’s love and longsuffering patience. I would like to believe that God would protect me from Covid-19 and all of the other plagues of humanity, but I would much rather that he protect me in my resolve to live (or die) for Him and the real truth.
I know that this is hard to hear, and I know that it “rocks the boat” of many doctrinal positions. I do not doubt God. I have seen his healing when all other avenues have failed. I do not understand the why or the when of these amazing acts of God. I know they are true. Meanwhile, I continue to be grateful for any and all who work within the so called “healing arts”.
