Exodus 20: “Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.

Have you forgotten or forgone the blessings of the Sabbath? In an age of Covid 19 lockdowns and masking and rampant fear we need the Sabbath more than ever. It is a time to do all of the “re” things that life tries to take away from us. A short list: Relax, Reflect, Recover, Recuperate, Resuscitate, Recharge, Review, Reconnect, Restore, and the list goes on.

More importantly it is a time to listen. To listen for the voice of God through the Word and through the Holy Spirit. It is a time to put down the cell phone and get your face out of your tablet and see the glory of the Lord revealed in his creation. It is a time to renew the bonds of love between you and your family and friends. It is a time for the Church to celebrate the great grace of God in forgiveness of God and restoration of righteousness.

            Whew! What a great day!
