Psalm 25:16 Turn to me and be gracious to me, For I am lonely and afflicted.

There is perhaps o time so lonely or grievous as the small hours of the morning when no one is about and pain wracks the body, sleep will not come and the human creature engages in earnest debate over their own very mortality. Perhaps this is some of what David the future king felt in the quiet watches of the night when his men were all asleep, and he was tired, exhausted from battle, and perhaps wondering what on earth God might be doing in his life.
I admire David here at this point because he was not bashful in crying out to God. Paraphrased it might just read, “Here I am! Please don’t forget me. I really need your help right now. I’m lonely, hurting in my body and in my heart.
Ever been there? Seems the older I get most nights end up like that. Sleep will not come. Every little ache and pain seems to militate against sleep. Exhaustion rules the day. Just today, right ow, I cry out to God along with David. “Turn to me and be gracious to me for I am lonely and afflicted.”
