Deuteronomy 28:65 Among those nations you will find no repose, no resting place for the sole of your foot. There the Lord will give you an anxious mind, eyes weary with longing, and a despairing heart. 66 You will live in constant suspense, filled with dread both night and day, never sure of your life. 67 In the morning you will say, “If only it were evening!” and in the evening, “If only it were morning!”—because of the terror that will fill your hearts and the sights that your eyes will see.

Xenophobia. A word we should become acquainted with. There is a global movement of people occurring the like of which has not been seen since the first peoples moved about in search of the best places to live. Because of this movement some people are being asked to accept the presence of people quite unlike themselves. In typical fashion the “prince of the power of the air” has used this to his advantage dividing people and causing fear and resentment. People are incited to violence to keep or acquire what they feel they need to live. You may read into that statement anything you understand, looking at your deepest fears realized.

The devil uses every strategy to foment unrest. Do not be deceived. The Greek root of the word xenophobia is actually a compounding of two words xenos, or guest, and phobos, meaning fear or flight. If we can be made to be afraid of our neighbors then truly the world does belong to the devil.

The Bible offers many answers to this problem of fear welling up in us. Isaiah 26:3 You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you., Psalm 46:10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

These three have been a great comfort to me over the years. There are many more. Suffice it to say, that should you choose to become a student of the Word you will discover that God has answers for the dilemmas of these times.
