1 Corinthians 214 But natural person does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.

At first they just look sort of confused. Then, their eyes glaze over, and they start looking for a way to escape your presence. Finally, they may turn on you in anger and tell you, you’re stark raving mad. You may be quite taken aback by the reaction of family and friends when you try to tell them about the Savior you love and who loves them too. Why is that? I have often wondered about that. So much of the lore of evangelism seems to be presented in some sort of “put and take” kind of way that we think all we have to do is say the name and people will come running to Jesus.

The truth of the matter is that most are not ready. Whatever is cooking in side of them spiritually isn’t done yet. When we are so arrogant that we think “we are leading them to Christ” we fail to take into the count that unless God is already drawing them by His Spirit, the “fruit” we are seeking to gather will quickly spoil. We pray, we listen. We speak as God leads us to speak. They still have the freedom to choose. Whether they will or not is not our worry. God will work beyond anything we can do.
