Romans 12:17 Never repay evil for evil to anyone. [a]Respect what is right in the sight of all people. 18 If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people. 19 Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good. (NASB)

Once again, the Holy Scriptures reflect again on the need for us to live together in peace and always with an eye toward modeling the Love of God to each person we encounter. This is hard. From the very beginning when Cain slew his brother Abel (Genesis 4) we have seen that the attitude with which we walk through this life God has given to us is something that we either control or don’t. For my part, without the guiding hand of scripture and the presence in my life of the Holy Spirit I believe that I would fall into the emotional self-indulgence which caused Abel to rise up in anger and so become the poster child for hate and vengeance.

Do you struggle with anger, frustration, even generational hatred? The only true cure is to allow yourself to be overcome by love. The only way for that to happen is to see, understand, and know that what happened on the mount called Calvary, when as far as the Roman were concerned just another miscreant was executed by crucifixion (and believe me there were thousands upon thousands executed in that fashion) that the man, Jesus of Nazareth, was and is and always will be the only Son of God born unto a woman and invested with the same humanity as you and I, and that He died there only to live again rising on the third day just as He had told his disciples. Without the gift of His sacrifice for your sins you and I like Cain would be doomed. Have you received your gift yet?
