Ephesians 4:32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.

Wrapped up in this most difficult of verses are all of the negative, preventive dynamics that keep us from having a fulfilled and fulfilling relationship with Jesus. So many times I have listened to people pour out their anger, hurt, and frustration with a spouse, a child, or a friend, saying “I just can’t forgive them.” To that I say “Baloney”. It’s not that you can’t, it is that you won’t forgive them You want to forever use the affront as a weapon against that person to control and direct your interactions with them. You want them under your thumb. In the end you only hurt and ultimately condemn yourself. God forgave us through the sacrifice, the blood paid by Jesus our Christ. By your unforgiveness you make his sacrifice as nothing in your life and heart when you will not forgive completely as you were forgiven.
