Matthew 9:36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

The wisdom of ears part 6
Ready to be offended? You are like a confused and lost sheep without a shepherd to give you guidance and safe pasture. Forget any imagery you have of yourself as a lion, or a shark, or a wolf, or an eagle, or whatever critter you invest with some foolish notion of nobility. You are a sheep. Easily led, a victim of your own whims, and subject to the deception of other sheep and the true enemy of the Great Shepherd. Don’t worry. I’m not up on any high horse here, I’m a sheep too.
When we can once accept the fact of our true nature, (Here I might add perhaps less subtly. “Get over yourself.” We are able then to know God’s good and perfect will for our lives. (Romans 12:1-3) Jesus said “My sheep know my voice”. (John 10) When our ears have finally been unstopped from the noise of our own self-importance we are finally able to hear and know this great love which the father has for us.
