2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.

The wisdom of ears. Part 1
The phrase “whoever has ears let them hear” occurs more than twenty times throughout the scriptures. The phrase I’m sure does not only apply to actual sound, but to all of the incoming messages we receive, or not, through the means God has built into us to understand His world. We are given two ears, to hear, two eyes to see, two nostrils to smell, ten fingers to touch and feel, one tongue to taste. With all apology to those who feel themselves shortchanged due to accident or infirmity I would put forth that ALL of these “senses” are capable of being influenced, capable of being deceived, and prone fatigue and also to wearing out.
At a very early age we are prone to developing preferences and prejudices. In adulthood, frequently those preferences become “calcified” and hardened to form our views of how society should work. Somehow in the midst of all this the Holy Spirit calls to us, tries to “woo” us away from the trap of living only in the flesh, but to being “born again” into a holy and Spirit filled life.
