1 Corinthians 2:2For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

The thing I admire about the apostle Paul is that he sought no admiration. He brought attention to himself only as an apostle of the risen Christ. Having stood in the place of one declaring the name of Jesus to other people I am fully aware of the tendencies of preachers, teachers, and evangelists to “polish their own apples” to the detriment of the gospel. It is Paul’s resolution here that I find so captivating. Beyond all other issues the salvation of the lost sinner is paramount in Paul’s mind. Nothing else holds any sway for him, not even his own safety or well-being.

As long as we’re here let’s resolve to be like Paul in this one thing. Let’s not waste people’s time with anything other than the “straight-up” gospel. Let’s each one “study to show ourselves workmen approved” (2 Timothy 2:15)

There are opportunities all around us. Screw up your courage and introduce someone to Jesus. The reward comes from our obedience.
