Isaiah 53: 4 Surely he took up our pain
    and bore our suffering,
yet we considered him punished by God,
    stricken by him, and afflicted.
But he was pierced for our transgressions,
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
    and by his wounds we are healed.

            Perspective they say is everything. What is your perspective of the crucifixion (read “murder”) of Jesus by Roman authorities at the behest of the Jewish ruling class? The images and icons that we tend to elevate to some sort of worship objects say an awful lot about who we are. Are the events of “Good Friday” and the items wielded a monument to grace, or merely the idols of the more grotesque interests of history.

            If we are driven to pity, anger, or anything other than love for this Savior, we need to re-calibrate our emotional meters. He was powerful throughout. Powerful in restraint, powerful in obedience, powerful in faith, powerful in love, and ultimately powerful in His absolute mastery of the moment.

            Make no mistake. Jesus came to be the propitiation, that is the atonement, the conciliation before God for the sins of the entire world. As we recoil in horror at what was done to Jesus we must never lose sight of the love of God the Father, and God the son in bringing about the possibility for our restoration, our resurrection from death to eternal life.
