Numbers 33:23b …and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. 

James 1:15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

            Even if you receive Christ you may yet be plagued by the desires that threaten to drive you from His side. What does it take to be set free from what generations past have called “besetting sin”. My old doctrine and theology professors taught me that the key to solving this dilemma is the fullness of the love relationship with Jesus. When we so desire that fullness it becomes like a consuming fire that will never be satisfied until we are blessed with the absolute fullness of His holy Spirit.

            Ephesians 3:17b And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, 18 may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, 19 and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.

            So what is the key to this love relationship?  As with any relationship it must be a two way street. In order to receive we must give. In order to be fulfilled we must first be emptied. Emptied of what you ask? Simply this. Everything. Your will, your way, your hope your dreams your resources, your skills…” What?” You say. To be left with nothing. How will I ever survive? This is the kind of vulnerability that Jesus experienced as He willed himself to follow through all the way to the cross. That truly is all that’s left to us. The “Cost of Discipleship” is great.
