Ephesians 6:10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.
The armor of God is as much more protective than it is tactically offensive. One sword, the Word of God and five pieces of protective armor. The thing to note here is the fact that the devil schemes to bring you under his sway. While much of the popular literature about the battle between Christ and the devil centers on the “frontal” assault alluded to in some of the writings of the New Testament it should well be noted that the devil has learned a great subtlety in his affairs with the lies of you and me. The great boxer Muhammad Ali developed a certain set of moves known as “the rope a dope” to lure an opponent into a false sense of control, so too the devil has learned the art of deceit beyond anything that we can imagine. Hence, the plea of the model prayer “…and deliver us from evil”. (Matthew 6:13)
Sword practice for you and I should be learning and gaining wisdom from the scriptures and applying them as a matter of course for our lives so that e may spot the schemes of the devil from a long way off.
