Nahum 1:2 The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath.
The Lord takes vengeance on his foes
and vents his wrath against his enemies.
3 The Lord is slow to anger but great in power;
the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.
His way is in the whirlwind and the storm,
and clouds are the dust of his feet.

In case you didn’t know, this image is of an ancient water clock. As surely as the water moved from one pot to another time was running out for the city of Ninevah. A Philistine city, long the bane of the Israelites God’s furious wrath was about to be unleashed against that place.
How does this apply to me? You may rightfully ask that question. It is simply this. God has reserved judgement in the wake of Jesus’ atoning death on the cross and through the power of His resurrection. But, “there is coming a day…”. If God’s wrath was to the Philistines, how much more so will his wrath extend to those who have hated His son, who have refused His offer of mercy and grace? If you are in Christ you know full well what I mean. I shudder to think about the people closest to me whom I love, who have rejected Jesus, even though they may mentally understand, their hearts remain hardened to God’s love. I weep for them in my spirit whenever they come to mind. I pray Lord use whatever means necessary to turn their hearts, even me.
