1 John 5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.
If. It’s a very big word here. Walking in the light, while at once may seem like an easy thing, becomes harder once we know that there is opposition to the very fact of the light. In the Gospel account by the same writer, John the apostle he says, “9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. 10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. 11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. 12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God— 13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God”. John Chapter 1”
How then con we continue in the light of Christ? We need to be wary at every juncture when the darkness calls out to us. In our weakness and temptations, in our frustration and our despair, in our pain and turmoil we must look to Jesus the author, pioneer, perfecter of our faith. (Hebrews 12:2)
