Song of Songs 2 :12 Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.

When a long winter is passed perhaps the mist encouraging sight is the mad proliferation of flowers, particularly daffodils that seem to festoon every yard and hedgerow where I live. They force their way up through the soil from the bulb root and in the strong sunlight of spring reach toward that light and finally bloom in a beauty is at once subtle and yet profound. This to me represents a glorious picture of faith maturing in the life of a Christian.

In contrast, the “tree planted by the water” (Psalm 1:3) is like the person whose faith has matured and who has learned to stand apart from the sin and wickedness all around them and to meditate upon the goodness of God in all things. Lord, please make me like the tree.
