Ezekiel 11:19I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.

What are the actions and motives of a transformed heart? In the context here the prophet is speaking to captive Israel and prophesying that they will come to their senses and realize what they have lost. Unfortunately for you and I we cannot mourn what we never had. Romans 3:23 reminds us that “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”. So, is this promise for you and I? My own religious tradition believes that if we consecrate our lives and wait upon God his sanctifying Spirit will indwell our lives with hope, possibility, power and understanding. That is what I take to mean a transformed heart. There are many times in the Old Testament where the people are admonished not to “harden their hearts”. That is true as well for you and I today. Circumstances, some even of our own making may allow a gradual process of hardening our heart in order not to be hurt, or to feel safe, or to isolate ourselves from the circumstances which trouble. It takes a little work, and a close walk with the Savior to keep a “heart of flesh”.
