Judges 1013 But since you abandoned me and worshiped other gods, I will not deliver you again. 14 Go and cry for help to the gods you have chosen! Let them deliver you from trouble!”

The failure of devotion is very often realized only at the moment when the last straw added to the weight of the passage of time inevitably reaches the “tipping point” These chilling words from God to a people who are in desperate trouble echo the chords of a broken heart. Have you ever been at that point? Have you ever been so frustrated that you were willing to “let the chips fall where they might”?

If you were to read on in this compelling moment in Israel’s history  through the story of the outcast Jephthah you will see that human arrogance, jealousy, and even stupidity are no match for the love of God in preserving his people. Are we capable of that kind of love? No, Not really. Only by the grace of God and the indwelling of His Holy Spirit are we able to love, to restore, and to guide and discipline ourselves to the kind of love God has shown Israel. Take courage, and hope you are not beyond redemption.
