Judges 6:13 Gideon said to him, “Pardon me, but if the Lord is with us, why has such disaster overtaken us? Where are all his miraculous deeds our ancestors told us about? They said, ‘Did the Lord not bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has abandoned us and handed us over to Midian.”

In the midst of bad times and dire circumstances it is very hard to receive a message of hope and possibility. It becomes incredibly easy to lash out and accuse the messenger of hope of somehow abandoning us. I know, I’ve done that many times. But read a little farther in the story of Gideon. From a little guy hiding out to harvest some grain to feed his family he was raised up to become a mighty warrior and a leader of his people, but, not without the power of God working mightily through his simple obedience. Sometimes God’s challenges to us cause us to doubt Him, but really we are doubting ourselves when God is trying to call us out of hiding and move us from survival mode to victory.
