Matthew 7: 21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’

Remember the story of Judas? He was close to Jesus, even to the evening of his unconscionable betrayal of his master. His fate, as illustrated here was his own response to his failure of trust. As if to underscore what He had just said in the remarks on the day of the teaching we now call the “sermon on the mount” Jesus here makes a distinction between a vocal adherent and a true follower. Many people will claim to follow Jesus, but in their hearts He knows what they truly believe. Even if they come to Him in the eleventh hour of their lives and cry out earnestly He will welcome them I believe, but those who acquiesce to him without faith run the risk of being forever excluded from the grace of His presence.
Do you believe, truly? What impact has belief had on your life? “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.(2 Corinthians 5:17)
