Matthew 7: 6 “Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you to pieces.
AS tempting as it may be to try to convince everyone we meet that Jesus is the answer to their entire lives we need to understand as Solomon did that there are times and seasons in everyone’s life. (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, 11) Knowing this then that when we spend our time “spinning our wheels” and getting no traction in someone’s life that Jesus knows, understands, and is always preparing the opportunity for the “dogs and pigs” to realize His love for them.
The sacred things, if we trivialize them, such as the sacrament of the Lord’s supper, the stamp of membership in the Church the wedding vows, the offerings and tithes we are doing exactly what Jesus is speaking against here. It is, I believe important to hold sacred the things mentioned above. Each one should be approached prayerfully, humbly, and with fear and trembling as if approaching the very throne of heaven. It is God’s approval we seek, not the crowd’s.
