Matthew 5: 11 ‘Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
As mentioned previously the number of Christians martyred each year increases exponentially with each passing year. We should not mourn so called Christian culture, rather, we should mourn for the effect persecution has in some quarters on the continuing witness of the grace, mercy, and love of God in Jesus our Christ. As in Roman times many will recant their faith in the face of persecution. In places like China where the persecution of the church has been ongoing for many years the Church has morphed into something akin to the first century model in which the church was mobile, fluid, sub-rosa if you will. I can only conclude that there are many who live as Christians all over the world who suffer quietly under the persecuting oppression of weird religions and bizarre ideologies who if it were truly understood are providing that same level of grace and mercy toward their fellows as Jesus did each day of His life.

Christians need reminding that “Church” is the gathering of Christians for praise & worship, prayer, fellowship, caring for one another out of that love we share in Jesus Christ. Persecution is the world’s attempt to destroy, that Jesus uses to build, not buildings, but His Church, His followers, His disciples.
