I Peter 1: 13 Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. 14 As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. 15 But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; 16 for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”[a]
17 Since you call on a Father who judges each person’s work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. 18 For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. 2

It seems that “when it rains it pours.” Just at the time when the power of the united Church, across all denominational lines is needed most the very form of church as we have come to understand it is under attack both biologically and politically. Restrictions on meeting sizes, the very real fallout of the corona virus pandemic, and the obvious evidence of the reality of the challenges facing our “comfort zones” of worship should not deter us from being His Church. This is the time when the Church should be at its very best. Reaching out, communicating God’s love, praying powerfully, having the message of hope on our lips.
Phone calls, text messages, e-mails, letters, cards, social media, there are more ways to reach out to people today than ever before. We must make the world Christ’s by utilizing what he has provided. Are there difficulties? Is it often that efforts are made to “shut you out”? Do roses have thorns?
We are not defeated. Romans 13: 10 Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law.11 And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed. 12 The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.
