John 6: 26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

This is perhaps the most difficult passage for the non-believer to comprehend. It raises hostility yet today. The very fact that we must become partakers in the cruel death of Jesus the Christ, the idea that we would be able to benefit from the suffering of so compassionate and wise a human being beggars all comprehension. As if that were not enough, we are also invited to participate in His divine nature and to become heirs along with Him to the very kingdom of heaven.
For those who understand it is without doubt the greatest portrait of love that could ever be painted. The “bread”, so common, so natural, so much a part of the everyday life of everybody became the very symbol of God’s chesed (Hebrew), meaning his longsuffering patience and love. It is through this imagery that the people were at once drawn, and soon repelled because of what it mean to them. It meant simply that each one of us is guilty of sending Jesus to the cross of his executioners.
Rejoice, celebrate, you are forgiven. That is the whole point. God loves you and is reaching pout to you even today.
