Job 6:10
Then I would still have this consolation— my joy in unrelenting pain— that I had not denied the words of the Holy One.

I said to my wife, “Let’s play a game. Name a body part that doesn’t hurt.” We both laughed, but sometimes it’s hard to realize that we have reached that point in life that there are more aches and pans than we’ve ever bargained for, and that they will probably not go away on this side of the veil.

For Job the pain, the loss, the seeming estrangement of God did nothing to dissuade him from his “long obedience in the same direction”. (A Long Obedience in the Same Direction, commemorative edition, by Eugene H. Peterson Commemorative Preface ©2019 by Leif Peterson Second edition ©2000 by Eugene H. Peterson First edition ©1980 by Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship) Job had made his stand for God from the beginning and whether through prosperity or poverty, through danger or peace, through strong health or affliction of great pain he remained true to his God.

My prayer at this point in life is to remain true to His Word, and to grow in His grace to be ready at last for a blessed meeting with Him when He calls me home.
