Isaiah 40:15 Surely the nations are like a drop in a bucket;
they are regarded as dust on the scales;
he weighs the islands as though they were fine dust.
I can recall with what great hope my parents regarded the UN building when first we visited New York City. Both had had typically American experiences of World War II. My father, a gunnery instructor in the army air corps had been on the island if Saipan re-fitting the B-17 and B 24D planes with the newest armaments. My mother had been employed n a factory in Syracuse NY as a welder making tank turrets. Both, fifteen years later, were excited at the prospect of world peace under a body of like minded national leaders.
Sadly, things have not worked out for those noble thoughts. War is more prevalent than ever. The preparations for war have not ended, and the relationships between nations are fraught with deception, blackmail, intimidation and greed. The cause? Ultimately the cause can be laid at the feet of the tragedy of the human sin nature.
We pour so much thought and effort into trying to achieve that which is impossible without divine help. I am fully aware of the best intentions and efforts of the idealists who want to see a “better” world. But, I believe with all my heart that things will not be put right until Jesus comes and stands victorious over the battlefield of Armageddon. Read Revelation Chapters 16-20. There is still time. This moment. Will you turn to Christ and in repentance seek forgiveness?
