Finding God in the Mysteries of every day

Hebrews 10:30-31 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Think of hell as a hole in the ground

Think of where all men are bound

Think of heaven, God on high

Jesus apple of his eye. (song fragment- lml)

I am reminded today of how critical our choices are here on this earth. A friend recently passed away who had heard all of the reasons to choose Jesus over everything else in his life, but he remained stubborn, adamant in his refusal of the gift of eternity. As a Pastor I never told anyone who had had a loved one die that the person in question was condemned to hell. That was not my call to make. I have had way too many eleventh-hour pleadings for salvation to ever gainsay what Jesus would do when the final confrontation came.

This rather stark warning from the writer to the Hebrews reminds us that we have a limited time on this earth, and that what we choose matters for eternity. The words from this passage which are quoted from Deuteronomy chapter 32:35-36, became the tinder that lit the fire of the great awakening in 1741 (See the whole sermon https://www.biblebb.com/files/edwards/je-sinners.htm)               What will you choose today? Do you think you are a “good person”? Think again. Jesus’ words to the disciples are clear “No one comes to the Father except through me”. John 14:6
