Week 18 Day 4

Finding God in the Mysteries of every day

James 3:13Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.

You might hear an awful lot of commentary about “being” Christians. Do you ever hear anything about doing Christ? Before you recoil at the whole idea of works versus faith, a truly misleading argument you should look at the letters of James, the letters of Paul to Titus and Timothy regarding Christ-like behavior. Most of the protestant church denominations are concerned with the outworking of faith teaching. It is not enough to “know” doctrine. It is not enough to “know” the Bible. To live in Christ is to take on the discipline of acting like Him, thinking like Him, and seeing people, all people with the same kind of love that he sees them with. This is hard, extremely hard. People provoke us, betray us, reject us, ignore us and push us to the margins of life, And the basic and constant quest to take care of self often totally clouds everyone’s ability to even notice anybody else.

As with any mental or physical activity it takes practice. “Practice, practice, practice.” My guitar teacher used to say. I would add, and when you’ve practiced, practice some more. As James has said: My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation. (James 3:1KJV)
