Finding God in the Mysteries of every day

Week 17 Day 6

Finding God in the mysteries of every day

Luke 2 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

“…and they were sore afraid.”

The shepherds on that Christmas night were frightened by the Heavenly choir manifested before them. Without having a highly developed sense of theater and spectacle it must have been an absolutely astounding moment. Today, in this jaded and overly entertained life that we frequently lead we would probably criticize the acoustics and lighting. We are without reverence.

A lack of reverence puts everything out of perspective. Without a right perspective we fear that which should not be feared. A lack of reverence causes us to miss the awesome, manificent power and presence of God. To us, we are always looking for
the man behind he curtain” (Wizard of Oz , L Frank Baum)

Our sense of sophistication, our reliance on the mastery of science over spirituality have done more to corrupt and destroy our hopes and dreams than anything I can think of. We are like the people of Laodicea to whom Jesus instructed John to write;  You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked.
