Week 17 Day 5
Finding God in the Mysteries of every day
Jeremiah 48:29“We have heard of Moab’s pride— how great is her arrogance!— of her insolence, her pride, her conceit and the haughtiness of her heart.
Zephaniah 2:3 Seek the Lord, all you humble of the land,
you who do what he commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility;
perhaps you will be sheltered
on the day of the Lord’s anger.

When we think of humility we think of the example of Jesus. Here shown in a modern interpretation of the foot washing episode in John chapter 13. This act, an act of humility in the extreme is set before us as an example. Very simply it means to come down from our lofty views of ourselves and be willing to “dirty our hands” to help others to be relieved of the filth of walking through a corrupted creation.
The scriptures are replete with the idea. Moses before the presence of God in Exodus chapter 3 verse 5, Joshua 5:15 etcetera. Walking in the world necessarily will cause the outside to become dirty. It’s when we allow the filth to become a part of us that we begin to think we are more worthy than we are.
Jesus has shown us the Way. Perhaps the biggest problem we face is getting over ourselves.
