Week 14 Day 3
Finding God in the Mysteries of every day
Zephaniah 1: 3b “When I destroy all mankind
on the face of the earth,”
declares the Lord,
4 “I will stretch out my hand against Judah
and against all who live in Jerusalem.
I will destroy every remnant of Baal worship in this place,
the very names of the idolatrous priests—
5 those who bow down on the roofs
to worship the starry host,
those who bow down and swear by the Lord
and who also swear by Molek,[b]
6 those who turn back from following the Lord
and neither seek the Lord nor inquire of him.”

The old Hebrew king Manasseh must have been an outgoing politician who made every effort to keep his kingdom peaceful and quiet. His approach was much like that of the so called “super powers” of that day. He allowed and even celebrated the presence of so-called gods from every culture which lived around him. Sound practice one would think. “Keep peace with the neighbors.” Canaanite, Moabite, Ammonite, gods all found place in and around Jerusalem and Manasseh’s sphere of authority. The “high places”, child sacrifice, and any other practice were embraced. God, our true God was forgotten. Does any of this sound familiar? Does it strike a chord with you?
In our so called “culture, our true God seems forgotten in the face of all of the phony idolatry of these days. Those who keep alive our flame of hope in the name of Jesus can readily see that as Solomon bemoaned in his day “there is nothing new under the sun”. (Ecclesiastes 1:9) So, why am I writing this today? Did I wake up on the wrong side of the bed? No, I just went back to one of the media devices I use and took a quick scan of the horrific things going on around the nation and the world and I felt as though the Lord spoke Zephaniah’s name to my spirit. I won’t try to explain that, but suffice it to say as I read that prophecy my blood ran a little cold. I have never been a proponent of the way many interpret so called “end times” prophecy. I would never attempt to “box God in” by giving a deadline or schedule of the events of the end. Scripture is clear enough. So far everything God has said would happen has happened and continues to happen.
So, what is our part in all of this? Very simply to be like the five wise virgins from Jesus’ parable. (Matthew 25: 1-5) We must be prepared. We must be about our Father’s business, which is to be witnesses of His son.
